Android app audience more global than iPhone’s | VentureBeat
The latest report from mobile applications reporting software maker Distimo finds a pattern no one has explained yet, but one that mobile app followers will want to know: iPhone apps, Distimo’s data shows, tend to be more popular in the geographic region they are produced. The top paid apps bought the United States differ a lot from the top apps bought in the UK.
On Google’s Android market, there’s no such distinction. Two applications, Power Manager Full and Advanced Task Manager, are the most-bought apps everywhere.
One more thing … applications Camera Genius and Camera Zoom are both among the top five most downloaded paid apps for the iPhone. I still have trouble believing Apple deliberately chose to leave a camera off the iPod Touch as some sort of clever product differentiation strategy. I believe the other rumor, the one that says the camera failed in pre-production tests. When the next iPod Touch sprouts a camera, I’ll be re-reading old blog posts and laughing at them. Yeah, I have no life.

BT Phone Scam - PLEASE PASS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY
| The new telephone 'scam' has arrived in Medway. I received a call from a 'representative' of BT, informing me that he was dis-connecting me because of an unpaid bill. He demanded payment immediately of £31.00 , or it would be £ 118.00 to re-connect at a later date. The guy wasn't even fazed when I told him I was with Virgin Media, allegedly VM have to pay BT a percentage for line rental! I asked the guy's name - the very 'English' John Peacock with a very 'African' accent - & phone number - 0800 0800 152. Obviously the fella realized I wasn't believing his story, so offered to demonstrate that he was from BT. I asked how & he told me to hang up & try phoning someone - he would dis-connect my phone to prevent this. AND HE DID !! My phone was dead - no engaged tone, nothing - until he phoned me again. Very pleased with himself, he asked if that was enough proof that he was with BT. I asked how the payment was to be made & he said credit card, there & then. I said that I didn't know how he'd done it, but I had absolutely no intention of paying him , I didn't believe his name or that he worked for BT. He hung up. Did 1471 & phoned his fictitious 0800 number - not recognised. I phoned the police to let them know , I wasn't the first! It's only just started apparently but it is escalating. Their advice was to let as many people know by word of mouth of this scam. The fact that the phone does go off would probably convince some people it's real, so please let as many friends & family aware of this. |

La retranscription de l'échange
- Tour de contrôle : «Vol Air France 735, descendez au niveau 360 et réduisez Mach point 75.»
- Le pilote : «Et pourquoi vous nous pénalisez à ce point-là en laissant passer les avions derrière, Air France 735 ?»
- Tour de contrôle : «Il n'y a que deux pistes à Roissy.»
- Le pilote : «Il n'y a que deux pistes et deux contrôleurs, vous ne foutez rien ! On avait rattrapé notre retard, c'est mon dernier vol et je vais partir en retraite de très mauvaise humeur.»
- Tour de contrôle : «Ça, je n'en ai rien à faire.»
- Le pilote : «Connard ! Vous êtes des enfoirés, vous travaillez comme des cons.»
Le décryptage d'un pilote :
Lorsque le vol AF 735, en provenance de Ouagadougou, arrive à proximité de Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, le contrôleur aérien demande à mon collègue de réduire sa vitesse à Mach 75, alors que sur ce type de vol long-courrier, nous arrivons à Mach 82. Le contrôle demande donc de réduire la vitesse de 871 km/h à 800 km/h, soit une baisse de 70 km/h. En règle générale, les vols long-courriers arrivent à une vitesse de croisière plus importante que les autres vols, mais, souvent, les contrôleurs aériens se contentent, grâce à leur logiciel de séquencement Maestro, de mettre les avions en file indienne sans faire passer les plus rapides devant, une situation que le logiciel gère mal.
Le pilote est donc furieux. Mon collègue explique qu'il a rattrapé son retard. Il a dû décoller en retard de Ouagadougou et a passé six heures à optimiser sa trajectoire et sa vitesse pour rattraper 10 ou 15 minutes afin d'arriver à l'heure et d'assurer les correspondances. En lui demandant de ralentir, le contrôleur aérien lui fait perdre le temps qu'il avait regagné. Du coup, notre avion a dû consommer 3 à 4 tonnes de kérosène, du fait de l'accélération, pour rien.
Analyse:
Est-ce que le pilote d'Air France n'est pas un peu trop pressé d'etre à la retraite? Entre glandeur et glandu l'echange verbal est à pleurer...

Le Figaro online shows a new "skin" but no real new 2.0 features that you would expect (audio blogging, video, social networks, etc). It is however a lot easier to navigate and find content. It is a well done job. I hope they will soon optimise their website for touch screen phones like they have done for the iPhone.
